Leather Bracelets

  New 3-wrap

 

 

I very fortunately received an order for eight 3-wrap bracelets last week. First thing that happened, was that my unfinished bracelet from last week's class is still unfinished.

 

I only had two finished 3-wrap bracelets in my inventory so, I needed to check my stash and go the the bead store to be able to fill the order.

 

 

I had just purchased some blue/green crackle beads so this was one of the first ones. I named it "Oceania" like the 3-row leather bracelet hoping it would not be confusing.

 

Next came a Hematite one. That is a repeat, called "Black Magic".  I had a good start.

 

 

Now off to one of my favorite bead stores. (pflora beads) where I  found some great Fire Polish beads in a Copper/Jet black color. The copper color does not show well in the picture.

I named this one simply  "Copper - Jet"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I think my favorite one, however, is the one made with white pearls and black leather. It looked like a "White Tuxedo" to me.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then I found these great cranberry and black beads that went nicely with black leather and a cute black button for a "Cranberry" bracelet.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I also, found some nice amethyst "stone" beads to go with some amethyst leather and a vintage silver button..

 

Have you found a favorite yet?

 

 

 

 

Well, I packed up the eight bracelets and mailed them off Monday. Now, I don't have any inventory.  But maybe I can finish the class bracelet now. Or, I can always make more and put off the class bracelet again for awhile if anyone would like one of these.

 

Time to start shopping for the holidays?

Another one

 

I hope you are not getting tired of these bracelets but I just had to share this one.

 

It represents several of my favorite things in jewelry designing.

1. Someone asked for it.(That always feels good)
2. The colors are not what I would have chosen for myself.                                                                                                          (Well, it is not for me,  so...)
3. I really like it now. Surprise!

 

It is called "Summer Gold"  Like the name?

 

This is just a nice example of why it is nice to know a jewelry designer. You can have what you want. Your colors, your length, your style.

More Leather Wrap Bracelets

Several of you wanted more information about the Purple three wrap leather bracelet featured in a recent post.

 

Since then I've made more of the three wrap bracelets and samples of a single wrap size. I've looked at many You Tube videos on the subject and first got very confused but have now settled on a good method for making these bracelets.

 

Here is a collage of the different bracelets. There are three made with Fire Polish beads (like the Purple one); one with Hematite (shiny black) and two short ones using larger variegated beads.

 

Part of the fun is choosing the materials. First the leather (Greek leather is best and what is used in these bracelets) Then the beads, the button/clasps and last the wrapping cord. Should it match, be invisible, or contrast? Then, how long should the bracelet be?

 

 

 

Here is a bigger picture of the hematite bracelet.

 

I plan to make several of these in a one wrap version. Many seem to like just a single wrap.

 

 

 

 

 

I mentioned the fun of choosing the button/clasp. At a bead show recently, I was lucky to find some fun buttons. Two frogs and two vintage silver and one copper button. My friend, Marcia, who went with me, found them hiding on a table.

 

 

 

Now, what to make with them? What colors would you like to see used? What kinds of beads would go with the frog? How long should the bracelets be?  Oh, the decisions!

Purple Passion

I have lots of fun learning new techniques. I went to pflora Beads in Canton, MA and learned how to make a leather wrap bracelet. This one wraps around your wrist three times.

If you haven't seen these, some sell for $100 plus.Well, I now know how that can be, because they take lots of time to make, but still think that is a bit steep. They are lots of fun to make, however. Choosing the leather color, the bead color and then the cord to attach the beads to the leather. Will it match or contrast? I used Greek Leather since it is nice and soft and very easy to work with plus there are lots of colors to choose. Fun picking materials that go together.

The color choices are endless but my favorite is purple. So, I chose purple beads and leather then I named this "Purple Passion"  I'll have more coming soon.
